Global Challenges Division
WIPO’s Global Challenges Division addresses innovation and IP at the nexus of interconnected global policy issues including trade and global health. Engaging in diverse global policy discussions relating to IP and implementing on-the-ground projects that demonstrate the positive power of IP, the Division collaborates with a broad spectrum of stakeholders to contribute towards the shared realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Division is part of the Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector.
Our activities include:
- Global Health and IP: WIPO’s Global Health Unit seeks to promote a wider understanding of the complex issues pertaining to IP, innovation and access to medical technologies. The Unit implements studies, trainings and projects to build the capacity of countries to leverage IP as a tool to address global health challenges.
- Trilateral Cooperation with WHO and WTO: Working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Global Challenges Division strengthens cooperation and practical coordination to support policy makers with enhanced empirical and factual information in the fields of public health, IP and trade.
