International Copyright Forum “Music: Sounding Out the Future”

Music: Sounding Out the Future in conjunction with the opening of International Copyright Expo

November 18 and 19, 2010, in Beijing, China.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC), with the support of the Beijing City Government, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Radio and Television (SARFT) and the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), will organize the International Copyright Forum “Music: Sounding Out the Future” to be held on November 18 and 19, 2010, in Beijing, China. The event will take place at the China National Convention Centre.

The event will be jointly opened by WIPO Director General Francis Gurry and Senior Officials from the Chinese Government.

China’s booming music market will be at the heart of this high level event which will attract government officials, content owners, industry leaders and other stakeholders. The Forum will enable policy and industry decision makers to review and analyze the latest regulatory, market and technological trends. It will encourage international collaboration among participants, with diverse backgrounds and knowledge in China and beyond.

The Forum will address key topics facing the music industry including:

  • The future of digital music content and the challenges confronting creators and consumers in distributing and accessing music;
  • New business models, value chains and emerging licensing and enforcement models;
  • Content owners remuneration and harnessing the commercial value of music;
  • The role of public authorities and regulation in an ever-changing technological landscape

Along with the Forum, a series of side events will take place as part of the International Copyright Expo including The Global Original Concert featuring Chinese and international stars to be broadcast on Chinese television; the Golden Award Ceremony of Creativity and the Professional Industry Exhibition to encourage networking among music professionals.
