The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) High Level Forum on the Global Intellectual Property Infrastructure for Promotion of Innovation will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on March 1 and 2, 2010. The event is organized by WIPO in cooperation with the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Government of Japan.
The Forum will provide an opportunity to exchange views and information on policy and strategy considerations relating to the current international situation and emerging trends in the field of intellectual property. It would also assist in identifying best practices to utilize IP systems for economic, social and cultural development, and in exploring possible areas of cooperation among countries for establishing modern and effective IP systems.
Heads of intellectual property offices and/or senior officials responsible for intellectual property policy in the concerned ministry/department from more than 50 countries will be invited to the Forum. Distinguished speakers from various regions will address the following themes:
Theme 1 : Intellectual Property (IP) Policy, Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Innovation Based Growth
Theme 2 : Contribution of IP Offices in Establishing Effective National Innovation Systems
Theme 3 : Promotion of an Innovation – Friendly Environment: Role of Information Technology (IT) and Standards
Theme 4 : Development and Management of Human Resources
Round Table: International Cooperation in Building an Equitable and Effective Global IP Infrastructure for the Promotion of Innovation
