On January 1, 2010, the Standing Committee on Information Technologies (SCIT) was discontinued. On this date, the Standards and Documentation Working Group (SDWG) of the SCIT was replaced with the Committee on WIPO Standards (CWS).
The SCIT was created by WIPO member states in 1998, and served as a forum to give policy guidance and technical advice on the overall information technology strategy of WIPO, including WIPO Standards and the documentation aspects of intellectual property. Its membership comprised all WIPO member states and observers.
Following the adoption of a new structure at its meeting in January 2001, the SCIT had two subsidiary working groups for Information Technology projects and Standards and Documentation.
