The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Federation of Reprographic Rights Organizations (IFRRO) have received a request from the newly created multidisciplinary collective management organization “La Sénégalaise du Droit d’auteur” (SODAV) to support the beginning of its operations by organizing a series of back to back meetings that will contribute to raise the profile of the new CMO both vis a vis its members and vis a vis users. It is therefore proposed to organize the following three events: - A workshop for authors and publishers on April 18; - A one-day public awareness-raising seminar focusing on usages and licensing of published works, collective management in reprography and the international copyright agenda on April 19; - A meeting of the French speaking reprographic rights organizations of West and Central Africa on April 20. It proposed that IFRRO and WIPO jointly organize these events within the framework of their cooperation agreement. The seminars which will provide an opportunity to address developments of the copyright agenda including promotion of the Marrakesh Treaty as well as the Transparency Accountability Governance (TAG) initiative which will be presented to the SODAV Board of Directors. A draft program of the workshops is attached. In view of the administrative workload in the Sector, the Copyright Law Division budget 0007 P1056 will provide to IFRRO a lump sum amount of 20,000 CHF to finance travel arrangements and accommodation of a number of representatives from African collective management organizations and of one speaker, upon completion of the event. IFRRO will take care of the organizational and administrative arrangements of the participants. It is requested that WIPO be represented at both events by Ms. Carole Croella, Copyright Law division (100% CLD Budget 0007 P1056). She will travel on April 14 to Dakar to have some prior consultations with the Ministry of Culture |
