From February 20 to 24, 2023, WIPO, together with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), co-organized WIPO IT-Business User Strategic Dialogue in Singapore, with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT/Japan IP Global). The event welcomed 38 officials from ASEAN and its neighboring region.
The objectives of this event include: (i) to facilitate digital government services in ASEAN region through enhanced collaboration among policy makers, IT officials and business users in IP offices; (ii) to share e-services policies and practices of IP office to support the development and promotion of government digital services using various digital technologies; (iii) to discuss the ways and means of leveraging digital technical tools for the improvement of services and performance of IP office; (iv) to exchange information on performance of IP office business services in different IP Offices to identify ways in which IP office can improve the efficiency and quality of business operations; and (v) to provide recommendations, including specific action plans, for enhanced and improved service delivery through utilization of emerging digital technologies in ASEAN.
This event was composed of three activities: (i) ASEAN Patent Task Force on February 20, 2023, (ii) Community of Practice Meeting for patent Examiners on February 21 and 22, and (iii) WIPO-ASEAN IT Business Strategy Training on Digital Government Services on February 23 and 24.
The event welcomed 38 officials in person, who are in charge of patent policy, international cooperation, patent examination, or IT management at respective IP offices, from Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, the People's Democratic Republic of Lao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Speakers were invited from the Japan Patent Office (JPO), GovTech Singapore (Government Technology Agency), IP Australia, Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Amazon Web Services Singapore, and Microsoft Singapore, in addition to speakers from WIPO.
