The Suriname Business Forum (SBF) has requested for a workshop on the contribution of copyright-based industries, on August 14, 2014. The workshop is expected to have about 45 participants that will include policy makers, copyright professionals, representatives of creative industries professional association and other creative industries representatives. The workshop will provide an opportunity to sensitize stakeholders, in particular creators and professional associations on the study. The main objectives of the workshop are the following: (i) Assist Suriname to develop and improve the capacity of national IP institutions in assessing the economic importance of the creative sector; (ii) Prepare the groundwork for building a foundation upon which national IP institutions, creators, and stakeholders of creative industries would be able to appreciate the importance of having reliable data on creative industries in strategizing the growth of creative industries; and (iii) Enhance awareness of stake holders on the potentials of the economic potentials of the copyright-based industries. The workshop will be preceded and followed, on August 13 and 15, 2014, by technical consultations with the national research team on the progress of the ongoing study on the economic contribution of copyright-based industries in Suriname, and address the technical challenges that the national team is facing. The consultations will address the following issues: (i) Available official statistics and data gaps; (ii) Additional data sources that have been missed by national consultants; (iii) Classification of Suriname copyright-based industries and its correspondence to WIPO categories and the International Standard Industrial Classification codes; (iv) Design of survey questionnaire and on information to be sought; (v) Determination of the copyright factor; (vi) Additional information needed for the analysis of the trends in Copyright-based Industries. |
