Following consultations with the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV), the joint WIPO-PRV-Sida Advanced International Training Program on Intellectual Property in the Global Economy for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with a focus on Copyright for Development is proposed to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, in cooperation with PRV and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), from November 17 to December 6, 2019. The Training Program will take into account gender balance and composition of senior officials from the private and public sectors. The main purpose of this Training Program is to exchange ideas and experiences on the contribution of intellectual property with special emphasis on Copyright and Related Rights, for economic growth and development both from a national and an international perspective. In this context, in depth examination and discussions will be made on subject areas such as works protected by copyright; rights of reproduction and distribution, rights of public performance, broadcasting; translation and adaptation rights; the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances and the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled; limitations and exceptions to rights and duration of copyright. The establishment of collective management organizations and their benefits for LDCs will be thoroughly discussed. The Training Program will also deliberate, in general, on the legislation, enforcement and management aspects of other intellectual property subjects such as patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications. Participants will be selected from those qualified national candidates whose names will be communicated to WIPO and PRV before Friday, August 16, 2019.
