Following consultations with the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV), the joint WIPO-PRV-Sida Advanced Training Program on Intellectual Property in the Global Economy for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with a focus on National Technological Capacity Building is proposed to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, in cooperation with PRV and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), from April 28 to May 17, 2019. The Training Program will take into account gender balance and composition of senior officials from the private and public sectors. While there will be general discussions with respect to intellectual property (IP), the focus of this Training Program will be on Industrial Property with emphasis on the use of patent information, scientific and technical journals for transfer of technology and technological capacity building. Subjects like trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications and their utilization at the national level to promote development will be given particular emphasis. The use of industrial property for the development of the agricultural sector, health, manufacture and natural products will be subjects of project assignments depending on the specific need of the country. Discussions on the above specific areas will be made taking full account of your various initiatives for the benefit of LDCs since December 2008. Participants will be selected from those qualified national candidates whose names will be communicated to WIPO and PRV before Monday, February 16, 2019. During the selection process, special consideration will be given to senior officials from LDCs with qualification and experience in areas of research on agriculture, health, education and transfer of technology. A certificate will be awarded to the participants upon successful completion of the Training Program in Stockholm and the follow-up in a country of the choice of the senior officials, WIPO and PRV). |
