Following consultations with the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) on the organization of a Training Program focusing on Copyright for Development for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), the second of this Training Program is scheduled to take place, in cooperation with PRV and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), in Stockholm, Sweden, from November 25 to December 14, 2018. The main purpose of this Training Program is to exchange ideas and experiences on the contribution of intellectual property with special emphasis on Copyright and Related Rights, for economic growth and development both from a national and an international perspective. In this context, in depth examination and discussions will be made on subject areas such as works protected by copyright; rights of reproduction and distribution, rights of public performance, broadcasting; translation and adaptation rights; the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances and the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled; limitations and exceptions to rights and duration of copyright. The establishment of collective management organizations and their benefits for LDCs will be thoroughly discussed. The Training Program will also deliberate, in general, on the legislation, enforcement and management aspects of other intellectual property subjects such as patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications. Participants will be selected from those qualified national candidates whose names will be communicated to WIPO and PRV before Friday, August 24, 2018. A certificate will be awarded to the participants upon successful completion of the Training Program.
