Title: |
Needs Evaluation and Technical Support for the elaboration of an IP and Branding Strategy for the Tanzanian Coffee Sector, United Republic of Tanzania under FIT Korea |
Description: |
The Ethiopian Fine Coffee Initiative is cited as one of the best case studies available in Africa to showcase the link between IP and product branding and marketing and income enhancement. During the Round Table meeting held on November, 2011 in Arusha, the Ethiopian case was considered the most suitable best practice to draw lessons from in deepening the understanding of IP and product branding in the agro-foods sector.
It is proposed to organize a one-week study visit to Ethiopia for some members of the Coffee Board, Coffee Exporters, the IP Office and the Ministry of Agriculture to get some insight into the circumstances that led to successful licensing agreements concluded between Ethiopian coffee growers and international coffee house chains including Starbucks. This visit will expose them to existing options of strategic planning and use of the IP system to increase the revenue streams of specialty coffee producers and other players in the supply and value chain. |
