Department for Development Cooperation

The Department for Development Cooperation, through its Regional Divisions, serves as the bridge between WIPO and its Member States, fostering two-way communication and cooperation. By collaborating with Member States and stakeholders, the Department strengthens capacity and promotes the strategic use of IP for growth and development.

The Department is responsible for the strategic direction and resource management of WIPO's development assistance programs, ensuring their efficient and effective delivery. It coordinates technical assistance and capacity building initiatives, guides IP strategy formulation and implementation, and leverages synergies across regions to maximize impact.

To ensure a coherent and integrated approach to development assistance, the Department coordinate and deliver development activities and initiatives on all industrial property as well as copyright and creative industries. The Department oversees the integration of copyright cooperation agenda into the platform of technical assistance of the Regional and National Development Sector, ensuring a whole innovation ecosystem approach.

By overseeing the entire cooperation agenda and maintaining a network of contacts across regions, the Department fosters international and cross-regional collaboration, including South-South, North-South, and triangular collaboration.

Through its RNDS Projects Team, the Department also deliver impactful project on the grounds in WIPO Member States, bringing IP for everyone, everywhere.

The Department represents WIPO at regional and national fora, advocates for the importance of IP, and promotes WIPO's role in supporting development.

The Department fosters close cooperation with other WIPO sectors to ensure a coherent and integrated approach to development assistance.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Department empowers Member States to harness the power of IP for social, cultural, and economic progress.
