Protection and commercialization of ‘Chechar honey’ and ‘Babar carpets’ (Khenchela Province)

The first implementation phase of the ‘Chechar honey’ and ‘Babar carpet’ projects (Khenchela Province) has been implemented by the WIPO External Office in Algeria alongside the relevant bodies (the Ministries of Agriculture, Artisanship and Industry, as well as the Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property).

An initial evaluation mission visited Khenchela Province from March 26 to 30, 2022. This mission met with regional authorities and associations of producers.

The mission collected enough data to evaluate the two products (‘Chechar honey’ and ‘Babar carpets’) and the possibility of protecting them through distinctive signs.

A report containing specific proposals and recommendations to register appropriate distinctive signs will be submitted very shortly to begin the next phrase of these two projects.
