Launched on March 23 at the Noureddine Bachir University Center (in El-Bayadh Governorate), Intellectual Property Month concluded on May 19 in Bordj Bou Arreridj.
Coinciding with National Students Day in Algeria, the closing events were held at the Mohamed El Bachir El Ibrahimi University and led by the Governor of Bordj Bou Arreridj Governorate and the Rector of the University.
A series of activities featured over two days (May 18 and 19) involving, in particular, the University, the Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property and the WIPO Algeria Office.
Several workshops on intellectual property and its role as a catalyst for innovation were organized for the occasion.
The highlight was a project competition in which 21 young inventors took part.
Three winners were selected for their inventions: a remotely controlled robot for use in surgery; a process for improving air homogenization and distribution; and a biodegradable, garlic-based biological substance to counter fungi affecting wheat crops.
The three winners will receive backing from the Agency for the Development of SMEs and the Promotion of Innovation.
World Intellectual Property Day was marked for more than a month with activities around the country, in particular Algiers, Blida, Batna, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Constantine and El Oued Governorates.
