WIPO Brazil Office World IP Day Celebrations

The WIPO Brazil Office (WBO) undertook a range of activities to mark World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2016. These included a seminar, outreach activities, and university lectures.

Seminar

The new WBO training room hosted 30 participants from Brazilian institutions to talk about IP and digital culture. The seminar was chaired by Professor Sérgio Branco. The event was followed by a reception.

Promotional materials

The WBO/INPI distributed IP Day promotional materials such as information folders and brochures.

University lectures

The WBO and INPI promoted lectures on the importance and use of the IP system in three Brazilian universities. Almost 200 students attended the series of lectures. The academic fields of the lectures and the institutions at which they were held are as follows:

  • Economics (Getúlio Vargas Foundation/FGV)
  • Design and arts (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro/PUC Rio)
  • Public policy (Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro /UNIRIO)

On April 26, with the support of INPI regional offices, other universities also prepared lectures for students all over Brazil. The University of South Catarinense (UNESC), in Criciúma, Santa Catarina, organized a lecture for 50 students on concepts and uses of IP.  The University of Pernambuco (UPE), in Recife, organized a lecture for 50 students on patents as a competitive advantage. And the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), in Recife, organized a lecture for 100 students on the topic of IP as a competitive strategy.
