Seminar on Intellectual Property for Latin American Judges and Public Prosecutors
September 9, 2016
Since 2002, the Latin American Judges and Public Prosecutors Seminar has been organized by the European Patent Office (EPO), the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) and WIPO on a yearly basis. The seminar brings together 20-25 judges and public prosecutors from the Latin America region to discuss with international experts issues relevant to intellectual property (IP) legislation.
This training course aimed at providing Latin American countries with a capacity-building tool for judges and public prosecutors responsible for deciding cases of IP litigation. The specific objective of the course is to provide updated information and practical capacity-building in the fields of patents, trademarks, and copyright, according to the level of knowledge and responsibilities of the Latin American judges.
Growing demand
In this 15th edition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, WIPO benefited from the support of the Brazilian Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI), the WIPO Brazil Office (WBO) and the Federal School of Magistrates of the 2nd Region (EMARF). The interest in continuing the Seminar is a response to the growing demand for IP specialists by the Brazilian judiciary and other countries in the region. All in all, 17 Latin American countries participated.
