WIPO Regional Director Participates in Seminar Marking 20 Years of Brazilian IP Law
September 9, 2016
On June 3, Mr. José Graça Aranha participated in a seminar to celebrate and discuss 20 years of Brazilian intellectual property (IP) law and the current challenges faced after two decades. The Seminar was organized by the Federal School of Magistrates of the 2nd Region (Emarf) in Rio de Janeiro.
The Seminar discussed the need to strengthen the structure of the Brazilian INational Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The current poor understanding of the importance of the IP system reflects problems relating to the structure of INPI, according to the vice-president of the Institute, Mr. Mauro Maia. Indeed, in Mr. Maia’s opinon, no developed country can exist without an equally developed industrial property and innovation system.
