WBO Receives Researchers

On June 13, 2016, the WIPO Brazil Office (WBO) received a visit from representatives of a research group at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, in Minas Gerais, Brazil.  The research group focuses on patents in the following areas: neglected tropical diseases, traditional knowledge, and access to biodiversity.

The following representatives of the research group attended:

  • Professor Marcos Vinicius Chein Feres, who coordinates the research group in IP at the Law Faculty
  • Lorena Abbas, graduate in Law from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, scholarship of scientific initiation by CNPq

Mr. João Vitor Moreira, graduate in Law from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, scholarship of scientific initiation by CNPqThe research is funded by Brazilian research institutions: National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Research Foundation of the State of Minas Gerais (FAPEMIG).

WIPO visit

The research group has been awarded a grant to fund international travel and are hoping to schedule a visit to WIPO headquarters in Geneva. In particular they would like to attend a session of WIPO’s Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore. The visit will be arranged with the support of the Latin America and Caribbean Bureau at WIPO.
