Regional Workshop for IP Offices of Latin American Countries

The XXXIV Regional Workshop for IP Offices of Latin American Countries took place in Rio de Janeiro, from July 4 to 8, 2016. The Workshop’s objective was to promote the exchange of experiences among officials of national IP offices. This edition was focused on the establishment of mechanisms of collaboration related to the management of trademarks and designations of origin.

The event was held in the WIPO Brazil Office’s (WBO) training facility and the following countries took part:

Mr. Graça Aranha, Regional Director of WBO, talked to participants about the Madrid System. Ms. Martha Parra De Friedli (Head, Trademark Law Section) and Mr. Glenn Mac Stravic (Acting Director, Registries Support Division) also took part from WIPO’s side by video conference directly from Geneva.

Regional Director of Motion Picture Association – Latin America Visits WBO

On July 21, 2016, Mr. Ricardo Castanheira, Regional Director of the Motion Picture Association – Latin America (MPA-AL) visited the WIPO Brazil Office (WBO). The aim of the visit was to present his institution and establish partnerships with WIPO.

Mr. Castanheira showed particular interest in a project developed by the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP):  “Cooperation On Intellectual Property Rights Education And Professional Training With Judicial Training Institutes In Developing And Least Developed Countries”.
