Seminar on Geographical Indications and Collective Trademarks, in Florianopolis, Brazil

From August 31 to September 2, 2016, the WIPO Brazil Office (WBO) organized the third Seminar on Geographical Indications and Collective Trademarks, in Florianopolis, Brazil, with the partnership of the Brazil IP Office (INPI) and the Brazilian Small and Medium Business Support Service (Sebrae). The purpose of the event was to promote a debate about the economic and social gains that geographical indications and collective trademarks can bring to national, regional and local economic and social development.
WBO was represented by Ms. Liliana Mendes, National Program Officer, who presented the international systems of intellectual property protection administered by WIPO.
The seminar took place over three days and featured six international speakers. There were around 200 participants, most of them local and regional small-scale agricultural producers.
