IV Regional Workshop on Industrial Property and Technology Transfer

December 8, 2016

The Regional Workshop focused on various issues related to public policies on intellectual property (IP) and technology management. Participants also discussed best practices and shared experiences relating to concluding agreements and partnerships between academic institutions and industry.

On September 7 to 9, WIPO organized the IV Regional Workshop on Industrial Property and Technology Transfer. Almost 50 people, including university technology managers, research institutions, technology companies, IP practitioners, and government officials participated in the Workshop.

Technology transfer

The event was an opportunity to discuss the theme of technology transfer in Latin America and to promote the exchange of experiences among the various participants.

The WIPO Brazil Office (WBO) was able to strengthen its partnership with the Brazilian institutions which took part in the Workshop. One of these was the National Confederation of Industry of Brazil (CNI), with whom WBO are organizing two events:

  • Seminar on the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), in Rio de Janeiro, November 22, 2016; and
  • Seminar on the Madrid System, in Rio de Janeiro, December 9, 2016.

The event was organized together with INPI Brazil and the National Registration Center (CNR) of El Salvador, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador. WIPO financed four Brazilian speakers and representatives from Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala and Mexico.
