35th Regional Workshop for Industrial Property Offices of Latin America

For the last 35 years, WIPO and INPI have been organizing annual regional workshops on different aspects of IP. They are an opportunity for officials from Latin American countries to discuss topics of common interest and to consider how to enhance their IP systems.
This year´s edition of the workshop took place from November 29 to December 1, 2017, at the WIPO Brazil Office (WBO), and was attended by thirty officials from 17 countries in the region. The themes for the workshop were:
- the Madrid Protocol,
- WIPO’s Industrial Property Automation System (IPAS), and
- regional cooperation strategies.
Experience sharing
Participants were able to learn from the experience of Colombia, Cuba and Mexico with joining the Madrid Protocol, and to get an insight into the preparations underway at the Brazilian IP Office to harmonize its procedures with those in the Madrid Protocol. A Senior Legal Officer from the WIPO Brands and Designs Sector was also present to advise on technical questions.
