Preparing for Accession to the Madrid Protocol

Experts from WIPO’s Madrid Legal Division and Global Infrastructure Sector came to Rio between March 19 and 29 to assist technical staff at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) to prepare for accession to the Madrid Protocol.

The experts from WIPO discussed with their counterparts in INPI:

  • national trademark law procedures,
  • possible modifications in the Intellectual Property Automation System (IPAS), and
  • other technical aspects of the Madrid Protocol and its interface with national practices.

The National Congress is evaluating the recommendation to join the Madrid Protocol, and it is expected that the matter will be decided before the end of 2018.
