WIPO-Brazil Summer School on Intellectual Property a great success

The WIPO Brazil Office (WBO) hosted the first edition of the WIPO-Brazil Summer School on Intellectual Property in Rio de Janeiro from July 16 to 27, 2018.

This WIPO event was co-organized by the WBO, the WIPO Academy, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property, and sponsored by the Innovation Agency of the Catholic University of Rio, the National Confederation of Industry and GMA Lawyers.

Forty participants from the Brazilian private, governmental and academic sectors attended the course, learning about recent developments in intellectual property (IP) from lecturers from INPI, WIPO, innovation agencies, the stock market and law firms.

The course, which was held in Portuguese, aimed to build capacity and promote debate on IP issues thereby enabling participants to better assist their employers in dealing with IP matters.

Summer school program

The program was subdivided into the following major sections:

  • Trademark protection;
  • Plant varieties;
  • Patents and innovation;
  • Copyright and related rights;
  • Other IP rights and the PCT;
  • IP as a commercial asset.

At the end of the session, all participants who successfully delivered presentations on selected IP topics were granted certificates of completion from the President of INPI, Mr. Luis Otavio Pimentel.
