The WIPO Brazil Summer School on Intellectual Property (IP) will take place in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, from July 15 to 26, 2019

The WIPO Summer School on IP will be jointly organized by WIPO, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil, the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI) and the Secretary of Innovation of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (SINOVA-UFSC).

Who is the Summer School for?

The WIPO Summer School is a regular training program that the WIPO Academy has been organizing in partnership with local institutions in several countries since 2009.  The course offers an opportunity for graduation and post-graduation students, government officials and young professionals to :

  • acquire deeper knowledge of IP;
  • gain an appreciation of IP as a tool for economic, social, cultural and technological development; and
  • understand the role WIPO plays in the global administration of IP.

The working language will be Portuguese, with some lectures by videoconferencing in Spanish.

Where will the Summer School take place?

The course will take place in Florianópolis at the regional office of INPI (Rua Nunes Machado 192, Centro, Florianópolis ), from Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 17:00.

Curriculum

The program consists of lectures by eminent experts in the field of IP as well as case studies and group discussions on selected IP topics.

The main fields covered are:

  • Trademarks
  • Patents
  • Plant Varieties and other Industrial Property Rights
  • Resolution of Controversies in the Field of IP
  • Intellectual Property as an Asset
  • Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions
  • Copyright and Related Rights
  • Strategic Management of IP

Certificate

A certificate of participation is awarded to those who successfully complete all requirements of the program (full attendance and oral presentation of a selected topic on IP)

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to 35 participants via face to face learning.

Online Registration

Interested applicants may pre-enroll for the course until June 30, 2019.

Applications must be submitted online with résumés, letters of motivation, and copies of passports (or identity cards).

Registration fees are payable to ABPI upon notification of acceptance. They fall into the following categories:

  • Students and members of ABPI: BRL 200.00
  • Professionals and non-members of ABPI: BRL 400
