Winners of WIPO Awards in China Announced

On June 11, 2015 the 15 winners of WIPO Awards and Certificates in China were announced in Xiamen, Fujian Province (China). The winners included both individuals and institutions and featured works such as the novel “Red Sorghum” by Mr. MO Yan (Nobel Literature Prize winner in 2012) and a CCTV documentary entitled “A Bite of China I”, as well as works by the famous novelist Madam ZHANG Kangkangang.
The WIPO Awards covered three main categories:
- WIPO Medal for Creativity
- WIPO IP Enterprise Trophy
- WIPO Schoolchildren’s Trophy
WIPO Certificates of Merit were also presented.
The WIPO Awards program, established in 2001, celebrates the achievements of inventors, creators and innovative companies around the world. More than 70 countries and regions have joined the program. The program was launched in China in 2008 and is now in its fourth round, It is recognized as one of the most important and prestigious award programs in the country and operates under the umbrella of cooperation between WIPO and the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC). in the previous three editions of the WIPO Awards in China took place in 2008, 2010, and 2012 and played an important role in improving public awareness on copyright related issues, in encouraging creativity of right holders, as well as in promoting innovation and the sound development of copyright-based and cultural industries in China.
Present at the awards ceremony were Ms. Binying Wang, Deputy Director General at WIPO; Mr. Xiaohong YAN, Vice Minister of the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC); and Ms. Hong LI, Vice Governor of Fujian Province of China, who presented the awards to the winners. More than 100 participants attended the ceremony, including the winners of the awards, senior officials from local copyright offices, staff of the WIPO China Office, representatives of collective management societies, as well as members of the media.
