Launch of Copyright Professional Training Program

A launch ceremony for the Copyright Professional Training Program was held in Beijing on April 20. The event was complemented by a celebration of World Intellectual Property (IP) Day.
The Copyright Professional Training Program is a training program for government officials, senior company managers and leading creators in the cultural sector. The courses cover:
- basic knowledge of IP,
- IP policy, and
- business development related to copyright and neighboring rights.
In addition to the in-person training classes, the courses are also available online.
The event was co-organized by the Beijing Municipal Copyright Bureau and School of the Central Committee of the CPC. Around 100 participants, including officials and representatives of the creative industries, the private sector, and media took part. Chinese calligraphy on the 2016 World IP Day theme of “Digital Creativity, Culture Reimagined” was on display.
Strengthening copyright protection
Mr. Chen Hongbing, Director of WIPO Office in China attended the Ceremony at the invitation of the Beijing Municipal Copyright Bureau and made a presentation about WIPO, its work in the copyright field, as well as World IP Day. Mr. Chen stressed that IP is critical asset of creative industries and IP rights should be better respected and utilized in order to protect and encourage creativity.
Mr. Wang Yefei, Deputy Director General of Beijing Municipal Copyright Bureau presented selected achievements by creative industries in Beijing and highlighted the challenges presented by digitization. He mentioned his Bureau’s experience in strengthening copyright protection for online music – work which has fostered increased copyright trade among creators, CMOs and online platforms.
