WIPO China: IP is An Integral Part to Nations' Secured and Sustainable Economic Development

The 1st BFA Global Economic Development and Security Forum (GEDS), co-hosted by the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) and Hunan Provincial People's Government, kicked off in Changsha, Hunan Province on October 18, 2021. Mr. Mao Weiming, Governor of Hunan Province, Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency, Ms. Wu Guiying, Secretary of Changsha Municipal Committee, Mr. Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Ms. Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and other guest speakers gave opening remarks on the Plenary.
Ms. Wang Binying, Deputy Director General of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), sent a congratulatory letter to the Forum. Ms. Liu Hua, Director of WIPO Office in China (WOC), attended the Plenary and presented the congratulatory letter from Ms. Wang Binying. The letter mentioned that IP is an integral part to nation's secured and sustainable economic development, and that the establishment of an effective IP ecosystem will provide basic guarantee for the national economy to move ahead. WIPO commends China on its remarkable achievements made in the field of innovation and construction of IP undertakings. China is advancing steadily along its path of economic growth and development through innovation, creativity and IP.
The letter noted that WIPO and Boao Forum for Asia have established long-term cooperation. During the evolution of 20 years, the Forum has become a premier platform of dialogue for building consensus on economic governance and facilitating the inclusiveness, sustainability and innovativeness of the region's economic development, for which WIPO is very happy to be associated.
WIPO looks forward to more in-depth collaboration with China and all its Member States, including those in Asia in the future to enhance IP and economic security as well as sustainable development. The WIPO Office in China (WOC), as an extension of WIPO in China, will continue to strengthen cooperation and coordination with all stakeholders in China and provide more targeted, more timely and higher-quality IP services.
