WIPO China: Director General Daren Tang Congratulates on the 22nd WIPO-CNIPA Awards for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Designs

On October 11, the Opening Ceremony of the 17th China (Wuxi) International Design Expo & the 22nd WIPO-CNIPA Awards for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Designs was co-organized by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center, Jiangsu Province. Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), delivered a video message at the Opening Ceremony. Ms. Liu Hua, Director of WIPO Office in China (WOC), together with Mr. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of CNIPA, Mr. Gan Shaoning, Deputy Commissioner of CNIPA, Mr. Hu Guangjie, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, and Mr. Du Xiaogang, Secretary of Wuxi Municipal Party Committee, attended the Opening Ceremony and presented the 22nd WIPO-CNIPA Awards for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Designs to the winners.
Mr. Daren Tang congratulated the 30 winners of the Gold Award for patented inventions, and the 10 winners of the Gold Award for industrial designs on behalf of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He commended China’s excellent achievement in the 2021 Global Innovation Index rankings, noting that these achievements need to be attributed to China’s decades’ long commitment to invest in science, technology and education and the progress China has made in building a modern and effective IP ecosystem. He mentioned that the WIPO-CNIPA Awards continue to grow in importance and influence by recognizing innovative and creative champions, and by supporting IP policy making in China. He thanked CNIPA for the enduring partnership on behalf of WIPO, and stated that WIPO looks forward to working with China and with all member states to build a world where innovation and creativity from anywhere is supported by IP for the good of everyone.
About the China (Wuxi) International Design Expo and WIPO-CNIPA Awards for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Designs
China (Wuxi) International Design Expo is the only comprehensive and international exhibition with design as its theme in the IP field in China. The Expo has been held since 2000, attracting over 10,000 companies to participate in the exhibition, and more than 1 million visitors,which has effectively promoted the development of Wuxi's industrial design industry and the operation and protection of intellectual property rights. The main activities of this year's Expo included the Opening Ceremony, two award ceremonies of the 22nd WIPO-CNIPA Awards and the 10th Taihu Award, as well as two forums on Design and Intellectual Property Protection, and on Design and Innovation Development.
The WIPO-CNIPA Awards for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Designs is co-sponsored by the WIPO and CNIPA. It is the only government award in China that specifically rewards inventions and creations for which patent rights are granted. It focuses on strengthening the creation, protection and application of intellectual property rights, promoting high-quality economic development, and encouraging and recognizing patent owners and inventors (designers) who have made outstanding contributions to technology (designs) and economic and social development. In the 22nd WIPO-CNIPA Awards for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Designs, a total of 10 Gold Awards, 15 Silver Awards, and 56 Excellence Awards for Chinese Industrial Designs were selected.
