On March 8, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Office in China (WOC) and the China Invention Association (CIA) co-organized the Symposium for Women Inventors, Scientists and Entrepreneurs in the New Era in Beijing. More than 20 women inventors, scientists and entrepreneurs from the Ministry of Science and Technology, China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Academy of Military Sciences, China Agricultural University, First Medical University, Baowu Iron and Steel Group, State Reserve Heat Group, Baidu, Smart Interchange as well as other ministries, renowned universities and enterprises attended the symposium and shared their stories of innovation and creativity. Director Liu Hua, Director of WOC, and Mr. Yu Huarong, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of CIA, attended the symposium and delivered a speech to extend their best wishes to the women inventors, scientists and entrepreneurs.
Director Liu Hua was delighted to have a direct and intimate dialogue with female elites from renowned universities, research institutions and innovative enterprises on the frontline of research. She said that “WIPO is a golden knowledge asset”, providing five sets of golden keys such as policy forum, registration systems, databases, cooperation platforms and capacity building platform, empowering women participate in innovation and creation. She focused on the global IP service systems such as PCT , Madrid, Hague and alternative dispute resolution mechanism, and highlighted the innovative digital tools and services developed by WIPO in the context of the growing popularity of digital technology and artificial intelligence services, in particular the WIPO IP Portal, ePCT, eMadrid, eHague, WIPO IP Diagnostic, Patentscope and other databases, as well as platforms such as TISC, WIPO Green and Pat-INFORMED, hoping to help more of China's major original inventions quickly go global. Director Liu said that the theme of World IP Day 2023 is "Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity", again focuses on women. WIPO has launched a series of activities to celebrate the huge potential of women in innovation and creativity around the world and invites women scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs to participate, particularly in the 2023 World IP Day Video Contest and the 2023 WIPO Global Awards. According to the Global Innovation Index released by WIPO, China has improved from 34th place in 2012 to 11th place in 2022, which is the result of the joint efforts of all sectors of Chinese society, among which the contribution of the vast number of women inventors, scientists and entrepreneurs is also a significant contribution, said Mr. Yu Huarong, Exective Vice President of the CIA. He said that CIA held special event on the 8th of March in 2021 and 2022 respectively, which was received warmly by the society. Ms. Zhao Jing, Director General of the National Remote Sensing Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, shared her insights on the career development of female scientists and the development of international and domestic science and technology cooperation, introduced the main work and important scientific research achievements of the National Remote Sensing Centre. She looked forward to the contribution to the development of China's aerospace science and technology innovation through the innovation network and the joint efforts of outstanding talents from relevant departments, research institutions and enterprises.
Ms. Gao Baili, Deputy Director General of the China Intellectual Property Training Center of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), introduced that the China IP Training Center has completed high-quality education and training of talents in the national IP system, deeply integrated into the global education network of WIPO, actively developed international IP training projects, played an important role in the private exchanges on IP, promoted China's good IP stories, and enhanced the international influence of Chinese IP.
Mr. Liu Binli, Deputy Director of the Beijing Office of the People's Government of Shandong Province, said that the Beijing Office has been given new functions in the new era. Ms. Sun Pingping, Director of the General Office of the CNIPA, said that after listening to the speeches made by various representatives, she felt the power of China's innovation and witnessed the extraordinary and hard-won contribution of women scientists and technicians. Professor Cui Yue is from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Engineering of Peking University. Her research is in the area of biosensors for chronic disease monitoring. She has received the National Science Foundation Eager Award (2013) and the American Heart Association Scientist Development Award (2012), and is a project reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Natural Sciences Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). She has developed a home use kidney disease sensor and a small diabetic sensing closed-loop system, and hopes that her inventions will be translated into results to help build a healthy China.
Ms. Huang Yidong, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua University and Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA). She has focused on the cultivation of optoelectronic chip talents and the construction of industrial system for more than 20 years, and her laboratory holds more than 150 related patents (including a large number of international patents), and has created an international leading platform for the preparation of optoelectronic chips across material systems, providing custom design and processing services for more than 300 research teams from more than 80 universities and more than 150 enterprises in China, and the related achievements have won the 2022 Tianjin Special Prize for Technological Invention. She has also nurtured three companies with a total valuation of nearly RMB 3 billion.
Ms. Yao Wen, a researcher at the Institute of Defence Science and Technology Innovation of the Academy of Military Sciences, is mainly engaged in the design of advanced flight vehicles and was awarded the 18th Chinese Young Women Scientist Award in 2022, organized by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the All-China Women's Federation and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO. Ms. Ni Yuanying, the First Expert of the Academician Expert Advisory Working Committee of the CIA and the Professor of School of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering of China Agricultural University, focuses on the research of theory and technology of fruit and vegetable processing, natural product extraction and functional food development. She has received several awards, including the 20th China Patent Prize Award and the First Prize of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Achievement Award for Scientific Research (Technical Invention) in Higher Education. She expressed her desire to work with the CIA and WIPO to make greater contributions to the healthy food industry and rural revitalisation.
Ms. Song Chang, Senior Engineer and Director Researcher of the Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. Technical Center of Baosteel Central Research Institute, is responsible for the research and development of magnetic yoke steel products, of which SXRE750, a magnetic yoke steel, has been the world's premiere product and rated as the international leading level by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, supplying nearly 30,000 tons for the Wudongde and Baihetan hydropower projects, which have the largest single-unit capacity in the world, with a supply ratio of over 80%. She has received five provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards, two gold medals at the National Invention Exhibition, and the World Intellectual Property Organization's Best Woman Invention award in 2021.
Ms. Fu Zimo, Chairman of the State Storage Thermal Power Group (SSTPG) and the Secretary General of the New Materials Innovation Branch of the China Invention Association, said that the Group has developed a functional polymer material, which is a key material needed in the fields of aerospace, large equipment and textile and garments, and has made a number of major international leading achievements such as antibacterial materials and nanofibres. She said that the CIA strongly supported the company's cooperation with central enterprises, assisted to establish a new material innovation branch, gathered more enterprises and R&D institutions to tackle new material technology, and helped promote the application of new technologies and products, which has achieved initial results. She expressed her gratitude to the CIA for its support and looked forward to collaborating for further innovation and common development.
Ms. Zeng Xiangqun, Chairman of Hantang Ziyuan Technology Co., Ltd. (listed on the New Third Board), has applied the technical achievements made in the past twenty years to core businesses such as intelligent education, intelligent medical care and emergency command, obtaining 89 invention patents, 139 software copyrights and 91 Beijing New Technology and New Products (Services) certifications for independently developed products. She hopes that by doing valuable enterprises and public welfare activities, more people will feel the power of women among entrepreneurs, and also encourage more women to boldly chase their dreams and achieve themselves.
Ms. Wu Qiong, Chief Expert on Baidu's autonomous driving safety and policy, is in charge of the area such as the construction of autonomous driving operation and security systems and model innovation research and cooperation. According to her, Baidu has 4,600 patents in the field of autonomous driving, of which high-level autonomous driving patents lead the world with 1,193.
Dr. Wang Menglin of Beijing Tongren Hospital of the Capital Medical University, has been conducting basic research on the pathogenesis of chronic rhinitis for the past 10 years and has been awarded 3 national invention patents, 9 utility model patents and registered 2 software copyrights. Her team has been working on basic and translational research on allergic rhinitis and chronic sinusitis for more than 20 years, and is currently conducting a number of phase II and III clinical studies on biologics for chronic rhinosinusitis in China, which are expected to bring benefits to hundreds of millions of patients.
Ms. Li Danzhi, Head of the Cultural and Propaganda Office of the Administrative Department of the Intellectual Property Publishing House, Member of the China Invention Association and the China Association of Popular Science Writers. She was awarded the title of "Excellent Young Position Expert" in 2019 by the CNIPA. She is the author of the well-known science fiction series "I Will Invent". The anime adaptation of the novel was broadcast on CCTV Children's Channel in 2022 and won the Golden Rhinoceros Award at the China International Animation Festival in 2020 and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's "Outstanding Domestic Animation" award in 2022. She is also the author of the science fiction "2049", which has been contracted by a film company to produce an animation film.
Ms. Guo Jianmei, General Manager of Beijing Electric Machining Research Institute Co., Ltd., said that her company is a national Technologically Advanced Small and Medium-sized Enterprise, mainly engaged in the research and development and production of EDM, EDM drilling, ultrasonic, laser and other special processing equipment and technology, and has completed the R&D and production of many of first sets of equipment and technology in China.
Ms. Ji Shuangxi, Senior Algorithm Engineer of Smart Interconnection, has participated in the national key research and development plan including the exploration and exploitation of deep earth resources and the development project of the airborne magnetic field measurement technology system, and the sub-project of the national major scientific research equipment development project including the aviation superconducting full tensor magnetic gradient measurement device. She is currently engaged in the computer vision research and development as well as other related algorithms, and has contributed to the development and use of numerous useful algorithms.
Ms. Wu Yingjie, Senior Researcher of Smart Connectivity, innovatively proposed a meso-emission model to evaluate the impact of intelligent transportation systems on the spatial and temporal distribution of urban road traffic emissions in real time. She has participated in the research and development of the big data monitoring and evaluation platform for the integrated development of cities and transportation, and she is currently engaged in the top-level design of energy road networks and the development of key products to facilitate the construction of intelligent transportation and smart cities, and to promote the large-scale commercial implementation of vehicle-road collaboration and autonomous driving.
Ms. Wang Xia, General Manager of Beijing Very Future Technology Development Co., Ltd., shared her story of failing to run a business due to the unfavourable transformation of intellectual property rights. She later founded Very Future, a new company that aims to bring advanced Chinese technology abroad and overseas technology into China, combining a business model that fits the national context and professional capital operations to help inventors and scientists to transform and implement their achievements.
Ms. Liang Xinyue, Deputy Director of Shandong Provincial Coordination and Innovation Center (Beijing) and Director of Shandong Future Technology Management Office, shared her legendary experience from years of foreign bank executives to professional science and technology financial manipulators, and also introduced the projects including the first national science and technology achievement transformation fund, the Peking University Pre-lab Incubation Fund, the Haidian District Government Intellectual Property Protection Fund, the Peking University Industrial Research Institute, the Lhasa Industrial Research Institute. Since joining Shandong Talent Group, she has actively promoted cooperation and collaboration with the CIA.
Ms. Li Yanwen is the PhD candidate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University. Her research focuses on the theory and application of magnetic fluids, with emphasis on the design of magnetic fluid dampers, which can not only achieve vibration suppression of major equipment such as spacecraft and precision instruments, but also have the function of real-time monitoring of sensors, and the related achievements have been granted three US patents and eight Chinese invention patents. She has also been awarded the gold medal at the 2022 International Invention Exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, and the 2022 Global AI Big Data Competition.
Other representatives from the Beijing Office of the People's Government of Shandong Province, Shandong Provincial Coordination and Innovation Center (Beijing), Tsinghua University and Baidu Group also participated in the event.
