Beijing, September 2 - The "Forum on IP Dispute Resolution and High-Quality Development," a part of the China International Fair for Trade in Services 2023 (CIFTIS), convened in Beijing under the theme "Strengthen Diversified Protection and Stimulate Innovation Vitality." The event featured a video addressed by Ms. Liu Hua, Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Office in China.
Ms. Liu highlighted the 50th anniversary of WIPO-China cooperation, emphasizing the significant achievements between WIPO/WOC and China in 2023. Notable accomplishments included the Director General's official visit, cooperation expansion with Chinese courts in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) for IP disputes, and increased involvement of Chinese entities in WIPO initiatives such as World IP Day and WIPO Global Awards. Additionally, she shared insights into new trends in IP dispute resolution, such as copyright disputes becoming more common, SMEs playing a crucial role, and technology facilitating arbitration and mediation.
The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service's practice of mediating foreign-related IP cases for Chinese courts was lauded as a valuable experience. The WIPO/WOC pledged to continue acting as a bridge, coordinating closely with Chinese stakeholders, and offering efficient IP arbitration and mediation services.
The event witnessed the participation of distinguished figures, including Mr. Han Geng, Deputy Secretary General of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, and experts from WIPO, courts, academia, industry associations, and enterprises. Notable achievements were highlighted, including the inauguration of the BJIPPC's Huairou Science City Branch and the signing of agreements on Data Asset Protection and Chaozhi Cloud Mediation Platform.
The event's significance was encapsulated in the release of the "Zhongguancun IP Protection Services Ecosystem Joint Establishment Initiative" and the "Annual Review on IP Dispute Resolution in China (2023)."
The forum featured renowned experts from various institutions, including WIPO, INTA, CISAC, Capital Copyright Society, Tencent Group, and Douyin Group, sharing insights on intellectual property dispute resolution. The event aimed to foster dialogue on IP dispute resolution in the digital age and included representatives from government, industry, and academia.
