Nanjing, China, September 11 -- The 10th International Fair Competition Policy Forum, hosted by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the Jiangsu Provincial Government, marked the commencement of the 2023 China Fair Competition Policy Publicity Week. Ms. Liu Hua, Director of the WIPO Office in China, delivered a keynote address.
During her speech, Ms. Liu Hua highlighted three key global trends: the rapid rise of cutting-edge technologies, the increasing importance of intellectual property (IP) for safeguarding innovation and investments, and the shift of the global innovation center to Asia. These trends demand a more adaptable approach to IP.
Ms. Liu Hua stressed the vital role of IP in driving competition and ensuring fairness. WIPO is developing a report titled "Intellectual Property, Digital Platforms, and Competition" to address the digital era and platform economy, set for completion in 2023. WIPO remains committed to supporting inventors, creators, and SMEs by providing free access to extensive IP information through various databases, fostering fair competition and global innovation. Ms. Liu Hua expressed WIPO's interest in deeper collaboration with China to promote innovation, protect IP rights, and contribute to the global IP ecosystem.
This year's forum, under the theme "Unified National Market and Fair Competition for the Future," featured speeches by prominent figures, including Mr. Luo Wen, SAMR Minister, and Mr. Xu Kunlin, Jiangsu Province Governor. Keynote addresses were delivered by esteemed individuals such as Ms. Gan Lin, SAMR Vice Minister, Mr. Hu Guangjie, Jiangsu Province Vice Governor, Ms. Tao Kaiyuan, Vice President of the Supreme People's Court. The forum brought together approximately 300 representatives from government agencies, judiciary, international organizatinons, as well as experts, scholars, and enterprise representatives. Their discussions encompassed topics such as antitrust enforcement, M&A regulation, trade secret protection, high-quality enterprise development, and regional competition cooperation.
