Dalian, October 14th - The 13th China International Patent Fair (CIPF) and the 24th WIPO-CNIPA Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Invention took place in Dalian, Liaoning Province. Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO, congratulated the 29 recipients of the patent Gold Award in a video message.
This year marks an important milestone in China’s innovation journey, it is now 50 years since WIPO and China began our cooperation. Tang highlighted China's remarkable progress in advancing intellectual property for economic and societal development. China leads the world in the number of top 100 science and technology clusters, according to the 2023 Global Innovation Index (GII). China is also a significant user of the PCT system, with over 70,000 patent applications last year. China's patent-intensive industries have contributed over 14 trillion RMB to the economy, reinforcing its position as a center for intellectual property, innovation, and technology. Collaborative efforts with CNIPA to foster innovation remain a top priority for WIPO.
Mr. Shen Changyu, CNIPA Commissioner, stressed the pivotal role of patents in driving industrial digital transformation. China held 1.6 million valid invention patents in core digital sectors by the end of 2022, constituting 38% of the total, supporting industry upgrades.
The China International Patent Fair (CIPF), co-hosted by CNIPA and Liaoning Provincial Government, is a global platform showcasing high-value patents, promoting IP transfer, innovation, and collaboration. This year's CIPF focuses on "Intellectual Property Leading Industrial Digital Transformation." The WIPO-CNIPA Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Invention, established over three decades ago, fosters innovation and creativity. This edition featured over 2,400 patent recommendations, resulting in 29 Gold Awards across various technology domains.
WIPO China's Mr. Bai Guangqing, along with CNIPA officials including Mr. Shen Changyu and Mr. Lu Pengqi, joined leaders from Liaoning Province and Dalian City, including Mr. Zhou Bo and Mr. Xiong Maoping, in presenting the 24th WIPO-CNIPA Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Invention.
The list of patents encompasses a diverse range of fields, including biomedical science, telecommunications, mechanical engineering, materials science, environmental technology, information technology, energy, pharmaceuticals, mining, aerospace engineering, optics, and space science. The significance of these patents lies in their potential to advance technology, improve industries, and address real-world challenges in their respective domains.
