Xi'an, November 3 - The 2023 Global Key and Core Technology Conference, hosted by the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, commenced in Xi'an. Ms. WANG Binying, Deputy Director General of WIPO, delivered an opening speech via video.
Ms. Wang emphasized the surge in frontier technologies such as AI, cloud computing, big data, metaverse, etc., which have created a robust market valued at USD 350 billion today. These technologies are promising in addressing global concerns, yet they also contribute to the "digital divide" among regions. In response, WIPO has convened eight sessions of the "Conversation on IP and Frontier Technologies" since 2019 to align IP policies with the evolving innovation environment, which have attracted more than 2,000 participants from over 120 countries in each session, including policymakers, innovators, creators, entrepreneurs, and IP experts, notably Chinese stakeholders from government agencies, innovative enterprises, universities and institutions.
Ms. Wang commended China for its innovation leadership, hosting 24 of the top 100 global science and technology clusters, with Xi'an being a notable example, ranking 19th globally. She also celebrated the achievement of Xi'an KissFuture Network Technology as one of the seven winners of the 2023 WIPO Global Awards, which honors SMEs that harness innovation for positive global impact. WIPO is committed to working with partners in China, leveraging IP, innovation and creativity to foster sustainable development globally.
Since 2017, the Global Key and Core Technology Conference has held six editions, establishing itself as a crucial platform for gathering core technology resources, displaying achievements, and fostering collaboration. This edition's theme, "Key and Core Technology: New Productivity Boosters", spotlights Xi'an's endeavor towards the construction of a national science center and a national STI center, with forums centered on forefront areas like AI, photonics, hydrogen energy, additive manufacturing, and new energy vehicles.
