Shenzhen's transformation from a small fishing village a generation ago to become part of the world's second largest innovation cluster is a remarkable story that highlights China's economic transformation. Shenzhen's dynamic entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem allows it to be a leader in fields like technology, electronics, and manufacturing.
While attending the X-lake Forum, Mr. Andrew Staines, Assistant Director General of WIPO, visited enterprises in Shenzhen to gain insights into their innovative development.
Mr. Fan Zhiyong, Vice President of Huawei, the company that is the largest user of WIPO's PCT system, shared Huawei's IP strategy and offered a welcomed tour of their R&D center in Dongguan campus.
Mr. Xu Yan, Vice President of Tencent, gave an overview of company's range of products and services. This included messaging applications, social media, gaming, video on demand, cloud services and Al products.
Mr. Chen Qian, Chairman of Shokz, gave insights into journey as a founder building a bone-conducting headphone technology. This invention not only keeps athletes safe during sports, but also improves the lives of people with auditory disabilities.
Mr. Zhang Tao, CEO of Pudu Robotics, discussed the companies cutting-edge Al and Robotics technology also known as Smart Robots. Pudu has developed robots over the past seven years for commercial use, leaving human staff more time to focus on customer engagement and satisfaction.
Staines also visited the Nanshan District Intellectual Property Protection Center to learn about the IP services provided to enterprises, and appreciated its efforts to promote IP protection. He emphasized that IP protection isn't just a legal checkbox - it's a dynamic force that can propel businesses and societies into the future.
