The Intellectual Property Cooperation Forum for Belt and Road Partner Countries, held as part of the 7th Silk Road International Expo on November 17 in Xi'an, focused on enhancing international IP cooperation for high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Organized by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, the forum featured key figures such as Mr. Bai Guangqing, Senior Counsellor of the WIPO Office in China, who delivered a keynote speech on partnership between WIPO and China .
Mr. Bai emphasized WIPO's global role in IP policy, services, and cooperation, highlighting the 50-year collaboration with China across various aspects of the IP ecosystem. This partnership has been instrumental in areas like talent development, awareness raising, and aiding poverty alleviation in developing nations through geographical indications.
Deputy Commissionor Mr. Li Danlu of CNIPA highlighted a decade of progress in IP cooperation, with over 50 BRI countries signing agreements and the training of 1150+ IP officials. Additionally, over 200 students from 50 countries have been enrolled in the Belt and Road IP Master's Program. Mr. Dai Binbin, Vice Governor of Shaanxi, emphasized the region's growth in education and research, marked by a significant rise in patents and PCT applications, reaffirming Shaanxi's dedication to deepening its role in the BRI and strengthening international IP cooperation.
The forum included over 300 participants from various BRI countries, Chinese IP institutions, the Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People's Court, businesses, and IP scholars.
