On November 23 and 24, the Regional Meeting on Integrating Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) into National and Institutional Strategic Frameworks was held in Shenzhen. With the assistance of Funds-In-Trust China, this event was jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), and focused on the integration of TISCs within national and institutional strategic frameworks. Keynote speeches were delivered by Mr. Marco M. Aleman, Assistant Director General of WIPO, and Mr. Li Danlu, Deputy Commissioner of CNIPA.
Mr. Aleman stressed that innovation lies at the core of sustainable development, enterprise growth and creative ventures, and is crucial for addressing challenges like climate change and health. Countries investing in strengthening their innovation ecosystems and promoting intellectual property rights, like China, are better equipped to handle uncertainties. The global network of over 1500 TISCs in 93 countries provides support to inventors and businesses. Integrating TISCs with national and institutional strategic frameworks can promote regional development and meet the needs of local innovators.
Mr. Li highlighted that, since 2017 and with WIPO's support, 101 TISCs have been established in China. These centers have significantly contributed to entrepreneurship, technology transfer, and pandemic research. CNIPA aims to deepen its TISC collaboration with WIPO and enhance international network exchanges, contributing to the global development of TISC network.
Mr. Andrew Czajkowski, Director of the WIPO Technology and Innovation Support Division; Mr. Bai Guangqing, Senior Counsellor of WIPO Office in China; Ms. Nathalie Montillot, Project Officer of WIPO Technology and Innovation Support Division; and representatives from TISC institutions in China, Georgia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam participated in the meeting and shared their best practices.
Attendees also visited high-tech companies in Shenzhen such as DJI, Insta 360, and ORBBEC, as well as the local TISC institution - Shenzhen Intellectual Property Protection Center.
