The event which took place at the Law Faculty, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, was organized by the Office of the LAWSA Vice President, Ms. Uzoamaka Aguoma, to provide students an introduction to intellectual property (IP) as an area of law, WIPO as an organization, and opportunities for student engagement with WIPO and its activities.

Oluwatobiloba Moody, representing the WIPO Nigeria Office, engaged in an interactive session with the students, while also providing a brief lecture on IP and WIPO’s activities.

As part of this visit, the WIPO representative also held a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Samuel Nwatu, to discuss collaborative activities aimed at supporting student engagement with the field of IP.

For the students, WIPO Nigeria’s presence was “reassuring” of the prospects of IP as an area of practice in Nigeria. For many elated students, it kindled their passion for IP as a course and a career pathway.

The WIPO Day event had in attendance Dr. Nwafor, the Associate Dean of the faculty, Ms. Fuchi Nwodo, the Faculty Staff Adviser, and three of the winners of the 2020 edition of the WIPO National IP Essay Competition – Ms. Susan Omeh (overall winner), Ms. Chantelle Chiwetalu (first runner up) and Mr. Abasi-Akara Edet.
