From April 3 – 5, 2023, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with the Nigerian Patents and Designs Registry hosted a training workshop to support the further development of the TISCs network in Nigeria.
The workshop featured high-level engagement amongst the 56 participants in attendance and WIPO officials. It drew participation from officers within the national industrial property offices, the Trademark Registry, universities and academic institutions, research and development centers, innovation hubs, associations of chambers of commerce, amongst others. The sessions provided an overview of the TISC and methods for developing institutional capacities to deliver TISC services. This was with the aim of expanding the TISC network in Nigeria towards enhanced innovation through information transfer.
Sessions were facilitated by Mr. Elangi Ituku Botoy, Industrial Property Information Officer, TISC Development Section, TISC Development Section, IP for Innovators Department, WIPO, Geneva, Ms. Juliet Nassuna, Lawyer, WIPO Expert on Patents, Trademarks and Designs, Kampala, WIPO Expert, Mr. Jean Philippe Zeia, International Expert on Research4Life Programs, Abidjan and representatives of the Patents and Designs Registry.
At the conclusion of the workshop, a TISC Steering Committee was set up to oversee the further establishment of TISC Centers in Nigeria. More information on the TISCs is available.
