April 20, 2023
An important annual event in the calendar of the Organization is the World IP Day. This is celebrated on April 26, and serves an important role in promoting global awareness on IP and the importance role it plays in society. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Women and IP: Accelerating innovation and creativity”.
To celebrate this day, the WIPO Nigeria Office will be hosting an IP and Women Business Summit: Women Accelerating Innovation and Creativity in Nigeria: Opportunities and Challenges. This will take place at the Babatunde Oshotimehin Auditorium, of the United Nations House, Abuja, on April 26, 2023, from 10am – 1pm.
This Summit will be celebrating the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs in Nigeria, while yet discussing opportunities for increased participation of women in the fields of innovation, creativity and broadly business in Nigeria. While Nigerian women continue to drive scientific breakthroughs, set new creative trends, build businesses that transform the country, yet, a huge gap still exists with respect to the full participation of women in leveraging the IP system for realizing the full economic potential of their creativity and innovation.
