On Thursday, May 25, 2023, the WIPO Nigeria Office hosted the visit of the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama. On hand to receive the Minister was Mr. Moody, Director, WIPO Nigeria Office, as well as officials, Ms. Victoria Onyeagbako, and Ms. Juliana Owajimam Oboh-Joseph.
Ambassador Nasir Amin, United Nations Division, and Ms. Sara Sanda, Special Adviser (Media), accompanied the Hon. Minister on his visit. In addition to a tour of the WNO, the Hon. Minister and his delegation participated in a round table discussion with the heads of Nigeria’s IP offices where reflections on the important work of the various IP offices, key developments in Nigeria’s IP landscape, and opportunities ahead were explored.
Present at the Roundtable were Ms. Stella Ezenduka, Chief Registrar, Patents and Designs Registry; Dr. Shafiu Adamu Yauri, Registrar, Nigerian Trademarks Registry; Dr. John Asein, Director-General, Nigerian Copyright Commission, and Dr. Dan-Azumi Mohammed Ibrahim, Director-General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).
Prior to the Hon. Minister’s visit to the WNO, the Director and Staff of the WNO had also paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister on May 24, 2023 in his office to extend the courtesies of the Director General, and appreciate him for his role in the establishment and continuing success of the WNO during his tenure. During this visit, the WNO also had the honor to present an award to the minister in recognition of his years of meritorious service and his important contributions to the work of WIPO and advancement of IP in Nigeria.
