On June 26, 2023, the WIPO Nigeria Office (WNO) in cooperation with the WIPO Academy organized a hybrid IP training for staff of the Nigerian Law School (NLS) at the United Nations House, Abuja, Nigeria. This training was delivered in collaboration with the Nigerian IP Offices – the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Trademarks Registry, Patents and Designs Registry.

The training commenced with Welcome remarks from the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN and the Director of the WIPO Nigeria Office, Oluwatobiloba Moody.

This training was organized to build capacity and raise further awareness of intellectual property for law teachers of the Nigerian Law School from the seven (7) campuses of the NLS across Nigeria. Training sessions introduced participants to various types of IP rights including copyright, trademarks, patents, designs, traditional knowledge and genetic resources. The WIPO Academy delivered a Nigeria-tailored DL-101 course – General Introduction to Intellectual Property. As a further step to this training, the WIPO Academy has provided the participants from the Nigerian Law School with access to the DL-101 course for a specified period. The IP Offices highlighted the Registration processes and Enforcement Structures – both civil and criminal – in Nigeria.

The sessions were facilitated by:

  • Oluwatobiloba Moody, Director, WIPO Nigeria Office
  • Altayework Tedla Desta, Head, WIPO Academy
  • Enyinna Nwauche, WIPO Academy
  • Eno-Obong Usen, Assistant Director, Patents and Designs Registry
  • Temitope Ogunbanjo, Principal Assistant Registrar, Trademarks Registry
  • Obi Ezeilo, Director, Operations, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC)
