Screening and Photo Exhibition - Her Intellectual Property Story Project

August 15, 2023

WIPO Nigeria, in collaboration with the Art for Humanity Foundation and SONY Nigeria, announces the successful progress to the third phase of the "Her Intellectual Property Story" project. This initiative has provided training and support to a talented group of female photographers and filmmakers, empowering them to capture intellectual property (IP) stories across various fields.

Over the course of eight weeks, 13 skilled female photographers and videographers based in Nigeria participated in a comprehensive mentoring and training program. Their focus was to utilize their visual storytelling skills to document, curate, and celebrate the contributions of female-led enterprises, creatives, and innovators in Nigeria.

The project unfolded in three key phases:

  1. Initial Training Workshop: From the 14th to 16 June 2023, the participants engaged in a three-day training workshop. This workshop emphasized WIPO's storytelling approach and promoted ethical visual storytelling practices. Additionally, experts from SONY Nigeria conducted a "Tech Talk" session, providing valuable insights and expertise on storytelling approaches and the effective use of the SONY Camera.
  2. Documentation and Fieldwork Phase: During this phase, the selected participants worked closely with their communities to identify and capture compelling IP-based stories. The Art for Humanity Foundation played a vital role in managing this process. Some participants had the opportunity to utilize Sony Cameras for their documentation efforts.
  3. Final Screening and Exhibition: The project will culminate with a final screening and exhibition, where the participants' captivating images and documentaries resulting from their fieldwork will be showcased. This event will provide a platform to highlight the participants' artistic endeavors and celebrate the diverse range of IP stories they have captured.

We invite you to join us in acknowledging the remarkable achievements of these talented female visual creatives. Through the "Her Intellectual Property Story" project, they have demonstrated the power of storytelling and highlighted the invaluable contributions made by women in the field of intellectual property.
