National Workshop on the Budapest Treaty, Abuja

A national workshop on the Budapest Treaty was organized on May 6, 2024, by the Patents and Treaties Law Division for members of government agencies, researchers, law professionals and innovation experts in Nigeria.

The workshop, organized in collaboration with the Patents and Designs Registry of Nigeria, provided an opportunity to learn about the benefits of the Budapest Treaty, as well as operations of International Depositary Authorities.

During the event, experience on using the Budapest system was shared with participants, as well as the importance of biotechnology and deposit of microorganisms for patent procedures.   The participants,fifty three in total, engaged actively in the discussion during the workshop, with key stakeholders participating in a subsequent high-level conversation on next steps and further action.
