Russian Delegation Visits WIPO Headquarters

A delegation containing senior members of Russia’s Federation Council traveled to WIPO HQ in Geneva to meet with the heads and representatives of key WIPO departments, as well as with WIPO’s Director General.

Senator Liliya Gumerova, Deputy Chair, Committee on Science, Education and Culture, Federation Council and Ms. Marina Yakovleva, Secretary, Council on IP, Federation Council visited WIPO in Geneva, on February 7 and 8, 2019.

Key topics discussed

  • Protection and promotion of regional brands;
  • Participation in the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications by the Russian Federation;
  • Implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled;
  • Development of youth policy on intellectual property (IP) in the Russian Federation;
  • Promotion of IP policies for universities and public research organizations as well as SME capacity building in the Russian Federation.

Ms. Gumerova noted the importance of IP development in the Russian regions and also of aligning national law with international law.

The representatives of the Federal Council met with Mr. Francis Gurry, Director General, WIPO. The key point of discussion was cooperation between WIPO and the Russian Federation.
