Russian Perspective of World Intellectual Property Day 2019

May 21, 2019

World Intellectual Property Day is traditionally celebrated for one week in the Russian Federation. This year's campaign – "Reach for Gold: IP and Sports" – took a closer look inside the world of sports.

From April 22 to 26, a range of international forums, conferences, seminars and award ceremonies were held throughout the Russian Federation to mark the event and highlight the importance of intellectual property (IP). These events provided an excellent opportunity for IP awareness raising for innovation and IP communities throughout the Russian Federation.

Message from WIPO Director General

WIPO representatives in the Russian Federation passed on WIPO Director General Francis Gurry’s core message at all events:

Intellectual property rights underlie and empower the financial model of all sporting events worldwide. IP rights lie at the heart of the global sports ecosystem and all the commercial relationships that make sports happen and that allow us to tune in to sporting action whenever, wherever, and however we want.
