WSO Contributes to the Pacific Island Nations IP Forum

For such tiny countries, the nations of the Pacific have big goals, and one of them is to help local businesses understand the benefits of registering their brands as trademarks and unique agricultural produce as geographical indications. These objectives are designed to help local businesses follow in the footsteps of Fiji Water and the Samoan super fruit – Nonu.
To assist IP officials in the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu achieve this goal, the WSO delivered a presentation during an online meeting of the heads of IP offices organized by WIPO colleagues in Geneva.
As many of the Pacific Island member states are considering accession to the Madrid Protocol, the WSO provided an insight into the various online tools and resources WIPO has made freely available to assist applicants through the four trademark lifecycle stages: Searching, Filing, Monitoring and Managing.
