The courses cover a primer on intellectual property; introduction to the Patent Cooperation Treaty; trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications; IP management; and a guide to protecting, commercializing and enforcing IP rights for SMEs (IP Panorama).

“By joining forces with the ASEAN SME Academy, WIPO hopes that many of the 8,000 registered users of the Academy will take advantage of the opportunity and join WIPO’s online courses,” said Mr. Peter Willimott, Officer-in-charge, WSO, “and by doing so, they can help to make their businesses stronger and more profitable.”

“It’s really important that SMEs understand how IP can help them and these courses are a convenient and fast way to acquire the right IP knowledge effectively”

The ASEAN SME Academy is managed by the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry on behalf of the ASEAN Secretariat. It provides a series of training materials for SMEs from a variety of providers, including Fortune 500 companies, to enhance ASEAN SMEs access to financial products, regional and international markets, information and advisory services, and technology and innovation.

The courses within the ASEAN SME Academy can be viewed with links to more advanced IP courses from WIPO to be added to the Academy website in the future.
