The WSO was pleased to join a group of esteemed speakers at a briefing session organized by the International Trademark Association (INTA). The session featured WIPO, IP attachés and IP offices representing the EUIPO, INPI, JETRO, the UKIPO and the USPTO.
Each speaker shared details of the work that their organization will carry out in ASEAN this year.
Whilst there was a wide range of programs and activities that the technical assistance providers will deliver, the assistance can be broadly categorized into three areas: enhancing IP laws, improving IP enforcement mechanisms and processes and refining IP practices to benefit local and international users of the national IP systems.
The WIPO Singapore Office looks forward to supporting these efforts and continuing the excellent collaboration we have with each organization to further enhance the IP ecosystem in ASEAN.
During the WIPO component, details of some of WIPO's new initiatives such as the Global Awards Program to recognize exceptional SMEs using IP, the Young Experts Program, and the range of webinars on Madrid - the international trademark system to help brand owners secure trademark protection around the world were shared.
INTA reported that the 60 brand owners and IP professionals provided excellent feedback. In terms of outcomes, the WSO identified a number of capacity building projects that will directly benefit the region and that will involve the WIPO Singapore Office.
