His Excellency, Mr. Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, sharing on the importance of IP rights registration in the region.

H.E. Mr. Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, ASEAN Secretariat, shared the importance of Southeast Asia and its significant and increasing contribution to Intellectual Property registrations at WIPO. “In ASEAN, there has been a 59% increase in patent applications between 2011 and 2020,” added DSG Singh.

Thus, WIPO, ASEAN, DGIP, and Bank Indonesia collaboration to increase the understanding and utilization of intellectual property is a vital initiative – particularly for small and medium enterprises looking to scale up in local and external markets. Enterprises will be guided in developing a curated and specific IP strategy to capitalize on their assets for growth in and outside the region, while preventing others from infringing on their brands or IP assets.
